In 2015, I founded Platformer Cloud with the goal of creating a developer experience platform on a public cloud. After evaluating several options, I chose Google Cloud (GCP) for its superior technical support, architecture, and cloud credits.

As we began to build our platform, we faced the challenge of deciding whether to focus on IoT or a more general purpose platform. But by 2017, it became clear that building a platform for Kubernetes was the way to go.

We were among the early adopters of GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine), and as a small team, we knew we needed a solution that was easy to manage and scale, without overburdening our SREs and DevOps.

Thankfully, working with Google’s team was a breeze. They were incredibly supportive and even shared some of their roadmap plans with us. They also introduced us to the Startup program team, who helped us secure Google Startup Credits worth around AUD$125k. These credits helped us build, test, and run our production platform until we were acquired by WSO2 in June 2021.

We highly recommend taking advantage of Google’s Startup credits and support to other startups.

Special thanks to Peachy, James, Matt, Lucas, David, Travis, and Anita at Google for their invaluable help and guidance.
